CALÍGULA at Teatro Nacional

Caligula is the title of the play that has as main actor Mr. Thiago Lacerda, Brazilian soap opera star presented recently by Globo TV Network. The play will be presented at Sala Villa-Lobos, in Teatro Nacional (National Theatre) this weekend, under the direction of Mr. Gabriel Villela. The play is considered one of top play texts of the 20th century, a classic play by the Algerian/French writer Albert Camus.

The show was on display from November 2008 to April 2009 in several Brazilian cities. The actor Thiago Lacerda recently has focused its role in the “Viver a Vida” soap opera and now, after finishing the novel, returns to the role of Gaius Caesar Germanicus, known as Caligula, the third Roman emperor, who reigned between 37 and 41 and was known by a extravagant and  sometimes cruel nature. He was the youngest son of Germanicus and Agrippina, great-grandson of Caesar Augustus.

To Mr. Lacerda, the play shows how humans are complex and fragile in the face of death, independent of the power he possesses. The play is a reflection of the individual limits for people as it shows Caligula, sitting on the throne with his schizophrenic pathology, making an intellectual joke about man in power.
