First of all, I have words of gratefulness for those who have chosen the new board of directors and also for the previous leaders that, with their talent, developed this institution. I would also like to thank Mr. Benny Garcia, from the Embassy of the United States of America , who not only worked with dedication and force during the last term, but also offered his collaboration for the future.
The challenges we face in these new times can be divided into five concrete areas of activity. Although we are thinking of extending and continuing our support in the sports and social areas, we would also like to develop three other news areas:
1. Cultural Events: This area allows us to present the local diplomatic community and the people of Brasília a variety of cultural manifestations of the countries that ASDIBRA represents.
2. Personal Development Support: It is very important to offer our associates the opportunity to participate in different seminars, courses and events in order to help the diplomats and their families to adjust to their new lives in Brasilia as well as in Brazil.
3. Services: To sign contracts with the objective of offering our associates and their families reduced prices related not only to convenience stores or diplomatic activities, but especially with regard to access the cultural life of Brasília.
These new areas will require a change in the management structure of the institution. It is for that reason that an important part of our job will be to obtain, guide and supervise the performance of the new administration.
This new institution needs to take a great leap forward, as remaining where we are would, in effect, imply falling behind.
As is the case with the initial stages of every major change undergone by an institution, the effort of a few and the support of many are required. It would be correct to claim that, in a globalized world as the one in which we live today, the world has become closer through the dynamics of communication. However, organizations still depend on the work and support of its members. As the directors of ASDIBRA, we commit ourselves to the effort required on our behalf and expect that all other members follow in suit.
