The vernissage had the presence of dozens of guests, including diplomats, authorities of the Brazilian Government, businessmen, intelectuals, students and personalities of Brasilia’s society.

Ambassador of Colombia, Mrs Maria Elvira Pombo, gave a speech welcoming the guests and highlighting the importance of the exhibition to show the world the horror and pain that Colombia suffered in its recent history.

The exhibition “Dores da Colômbia” (Colombia’s Pain) can be visited until May 1st at Caixa Cultural Brasília. It shows the creative side of the artist Fernando Botero’s anguish: the violence in recent Colombian history.

The artist Fernando Botero is known worldwide and through this exhibition, political, military, religious, musicians and royalty are portrayed as chubby corpulent and static figures. Without abandoning the style that made him famous, in this collection, the artist sets his sights on events like the attacks that have plagued Colombia in the 80’s and 90’s.

Unlike most of his works, the series does not reveal the humorous side of the painter, but what he called “a testimony to the irrational Colombian history”.

Dozens of guests were at the event.

Ambassador of Colombia, Mrs. Maria Elvira Pombo and Brazilian Defense Minister, Mr. Nelson Jobim.

The exhibition displays many works of the painter and sculptor, which form the permanent collection of the National Museum of Colombia. His paintings, made between 1999 and 2004, shows the violence that for years devastated the country.
