Denmark celebrates its National Day on April 16th. The ambassador of Denmark in Brazil, Mr. Christian Konigsfeldt, received THE GUIDE for an interview and talked about his country, his life in Brazil and also about the relations between Denmark and Brazil. 1- THE GUIDE: How long have you been the Ambassador in charge here in Brazil?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt : I have been in Brazil for three years and half, since September 2003.

2 - THE GUIDE: Are you and your family adapted with the city of Brasília?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt:
My family and I are very well-adapted, specially my wife who likes the city very much and is involved in activities of the Diplomatic and non-Diplomatic corps. My younger daughter lives with us here in Brasilia and my elder son lived here and now he is doing University in London.

3- THE GUIDE: How is the government regime in Denmark?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt: The Kingdom of Denmark is a constitutional monarchy , with executive power with Queen Margrethe II as head of state. The elections are held democratically for every 4 years.

4 – THE GUIDE: What is the size of the population of Denmark? Besides, Copenhagen the capital, what are the others important cities?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt: The size of the population of Denmark is about 5 millions and half. Arhus is the second largest city and the principal port of Denmark . Odense is the third largest city in Denmark , and the hometown of Christian Andersen, a Danish author and poet most famous for his fairy tales.

5 – THE GUIDE: What about the Denmark citizens? Are there any similarities with Brazilian people?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt: The Danishes are known as the Latinos of the Nordic Countries. Their joy and happy way to live their lives looks a lot like the Brazilians. Both have the same cultural, ethic and judicial values.

6 – THE GUIDE: How is Denmark politically divided?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt: It is divided in regions and municipes.

7- THE GUIDE: How is the National day celebrated in Denmark?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt: The National Day is the same day of the Queen's anniversary, and on this day there is a tradition that by the noon, the people goes to the square in front of the Queen's palace and applaud at her homage. It is a very popular celebration and all the citizens have a huge respect for the Queen. There is the Constitutional Day, celebrated on June 05th, but it is an event with a politic aspect.

8- THE GUIDE: Can you tell how many Denmark citizens are there in Brazil?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt: There is around 1.200 Danishes living in Brazil, and most of them are in São Paulo.

9 - THE GUIDE: What about the relations with Brazil? How are they?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt: They are excellent and always there are more challenges to fortify and to extend the relations in the commercial, politic, economic and cultural areas. There is a Danish company which will inaugurate a factory of insulin in Minas Gerais (Novo Nordisk). The Prime Minister of Denmark will visit Brazil on April 25th, and will be having a meeting with President Lula. About the commercial balance, Denmark exports about 1 billion and 800 thousand (Danish Krone), mainly pharmaceutics products.

10- THE GUIDE: Have you been in other states in Brazil? Which ones?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt: Well, I can say I know a lot of Brazil since these years I have been living here. I know North, South, East and West. But I know better the North and the Northeast. Generally, I liked all the cities.

11- THE GUIDE- What takes your attention the most since you have been in Brazil?
Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt: The most important aspect: the Brazilians! A very likeable people, full with joy and enjoy their lives the best way.
