Ambassador of Kuwait, Mr. Waleed Ahmad Al-Kandari and President of THE GUIDE, Mr. Pedro Paulo Moreira.

1) When did you begin your Ambassador activities in Brazil?
Waleed Ahmad Al-Kandari – I started my tasks as an Extraordinary Ambassador and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait at the Federative Republic of Brazil on the month of September of 2006.

2) Have you visited other Brazilian cities?
I made a work trip to the State of Sao Paulo and intend, in the future, to visit other regions within the context of my efforts to develop and increase the relations between the State of Kuwait and Brazil.

3) What are you thinking of your new life here in Brasilia?
This is the first time I ever worked on the South American region, where I consider Brazil to be a friend of the State of Kuwait. I have already found a lot of good receptivity from the authorities from this country and I also think that the Brazilian people is very kind and welcoming.

The interview was done at the Embassy of Kuwait.

4) What are the foundation of the relationship between Kuwait and Brazil?
The good relations distinguishes the bonds between the State of Kuwait and the Federative Republic of Brazil. Our foundations are built on the mutual cooperation in many areas. Even so, we acknowledge that this diplomatic relationship can be strengthened even more. We have potential to amplify our cooperation deals. One of the actions that can make this objective viable is the realization of exhibitions, debates and combined conferences about the reality of our nations as well as promoting meetings among authorities from both countries on many sectors, such as the private and public sectors.

5) How articulated is the Kuwaiti diplomacy on the beginning of the 21st Century?
Our diplomatic activities have been very promising. The diplomacy of Kuwait supports on the strengthening of the internal economy and the application of what we call "economic diplomacy". Through this concept, our diplomatic-political actions are oriented on the continuous search of the extension of the partnership relations with friendly countries.

6) What does the government from the State of Kuwait offer to the partner countries?
On the actual context of the diplomatic behaviors, Kuwait entered in a new era of economical opening. There are many facilities that the government is offering to the partner nations. I emphasize, among many others, the equal treatment among the local and foreign investors. The investor from other parts of the world will see that the Kuwaiti taxation is low, which is something that will surprise him. There is also in our country, the Foreign Investments Agency, an organization that facilitates the work of those who wish to apply resources in Kuwait. The investor won't have problems to bring funds and to get land; for example, if he wants to build a factory, the government will make the area available for this purpose. Besides, we have a new legislation that extends the facilities for the foreign businessman in our country. The Kuwait industry is in a growing stage, mainly at the oil area, which represents a great opportunity for the world investors, including the Brazilian ones.

7) The Kuwait has been showing to the world advancements on the political, economical and diplomatic segments. Can you talk a little bit about the evolution of the social-cultural area?
The participation of the woman on the political life was expanded. Now, she can apply her voting power, become a candidate and be the head of the highest director offices in the country. Another point was the growth on the number of printed papers and private TV channels. This initiative promoted a revolution on what refers to the local and world information flow, our society is more and more informed about what happens around it and around the world.

8) Will you leave any message for the Brazilian nation?
I wish to Brazil, a friendly country, the prosperity and progress always. I long for the continuity of this mutual performance that benefits our nations. I would like also to thank the Federative Republic of Brazil for its positive positioning of support to our cause within the forums and world organization at the time of Kuwait's invasion. This Brazilian posture reflected on how great is the contribution of this country to consolidate the safety and stability on the world and, at the same time, the size of the active role that Brazil has supporting the world peace, justice and legitimacy.
