Qatar celebrates its National Day on December 18th. The ambassador of Qatar in Brazil, Mr. Jamal Nasser S. Al-Bader, received THE GUIDE for an interview and talked about his country, his life in Brazil and also about the relations between Qatar and Brazil. See the interview bellow and get to know about this fascinating country.
THE GUIDE: How long have you been in Brazil?
Ambassador Jamal Nasser S. Al-Bader: I have been in Brazil for one year and four months.
THE GUIDE: Did you come straight from Qatar or were you working in another country
Ambassador Jamal Nasser S. Al-Bader: I came from USA, New York where I served fro ten years at the Mission of Qatar to the United Nations.
THE GUIDE: Did you bring along your family to Brazil?
Ambassador Jamal Nasser S. Al-Bader: Yes, from the very beginning they are with me. As a matter of fact my wife and my kids arrived some days before me because the school started early August.
THE GUIDE: Have you already visited other Brazilian cities? Which ones?
Ambassador Jamal Nasser S. Al-Bader: I had been many times in Sao Paulo and also I visited Florianopolis. Opening an embassy it consumes a lot of time in the first year, and as I mentioned it had been only once year. I am planning soon to visit many cities.
THE GUIDE: How do you find the relation between your country and Brazil?
Ambassador Jamal Nasser S. Al-Bader: I find that the relations with Brazil are most favorable conditions, political, economical and also sport issues. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Qatar and Brazil, and even before, the commerce between Brazil and Qatar always existed. With the openings of both embassies in Doha in 2005 and Brasília 2007 the relationship became stronger in all aspects.
THE GUIDE: What are the main products Qatar deals with Brazil?
Ambassador Jamal Nasser S. Al-Bader: Primarily Qatar imports from Brazil poultry products, meat, and dairy. Agriculture products and spare parts are also imported.
THE GUIDE: How are you adapting yourself to the new life in Brasília? Are you enjoying living here?
Ambassador Jamal Nasser S. Al-Bader: Adapting to live in Brasília was not difficult because as I lived in several countries with different cultures. I enjoy living here; the Brazilians are very friendly and always ready to help. The people always had a smile in their faces. Also Brazil is a very interesting country and multicultural as well.
THE GUIDE: Do you see any similarity among the people from Qatar from Brazil? Which ones?
Ambassador Jamal Nasser S. Al-Bader: I believe that all the people are connected among each other in a way or another and share some passion for similar things. For example Qataries love football as well as Brazilians. We also share some foods and this is because there is a large Arab community in Brazil. From the political, economy and international issues we also many common points of view.
