NATIONAL DAY OF GERMANY 2009

The Embassy of Germany celebrated the country’s National Day on October 15th, 2009. Ambassadors, diplomats and members of Brasília society were at the event to greet Mr. Hermann-Josef Sausen, Chargé d’Affaires of Germany in Brazil, and other German diplomats.

The embassy’s garden, projected by the renowned Brazilian landscape designer Roberto Burle-Marx, was beautifully decorated with tents where the guests could taste the authentic German food as well as the famous German beer.

Guests enjoyed German dishes…

…and the genuine beer from that beautiful country.

After the guests arrival, Brazil and Germany national anthem were played, and after, the European anthem, the beautiful Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, preceding Mr. Hermann-Josef Sausen’s speech.

The anthems of Brazil and Germany were played at the event, as also the anthem of the European Union.

In his speech, Mr. Hermann-Josef Sausen cited President Lula who said Brazil and Germany have a very close relation and that they intend to double the amount of business they had done in the last 15 years. He said Germany is expecting President Lula’s visit in the next month of December and that  2010 and 2011 will be the Years of Sciences Brazil- Germany.

Ambassador of Suriname, Mrs. Mavis Demon-Belgraef and Ambassador of Turkey, Mr. Ersin Erçin.

Ambassador of Finland, Mr. Ilpo Manninen, Counselor  at the embassy of Poland, Mr. Marceli Minc and Journalist from the Brazilian Senate, Mr. Ivan Godoy.

A jazz trio played during the whole celebration under an atmosphere of joy and happiness. At the end, the guests received souvenirs from the embassy.

Guests enjoyed jazz during the celebration.

Guests received gifts from the embassy of Germany. 

Ambassador of Turkey, Mr. Ersin Erçin (above) and Mr. Katsuhiko Haga, Chief Representative of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency – JICA (below), were some of the lucky guests at the celebration.
