NATIONAL DAY >> Sri Lanka's National Day
Ambassador General Rohan de Silva Daluwatte.
On February 4th, the Embassy of Sri Lanka made a special ceremony in honor to Sri Lanka's National Day. It was a simple, quiet ceremony for the staff of the Embassy, only, in respect to the tragedy of the Tsunami, in December of 2004.

The Ambassador General Rohan de Silva Daluwatte hoisted the flag of Sri Lanka to the sound of the country's anthem. After bowing to the flag and making a swift prayer, the staff sang the anthem together.

After hoisting the flag, the Ambassador went back into the Embassy for the religious ceremony. The Ambassador lit a candle and sang, in the Buddhist fashion (religion of the majority of the population). A passage of the Bible was also read in the end of the ceremony.

After the ceremony, the staff of the Embassy got together for a meeting in which the Ambassador discussed some of the current events, read the speech of Mr. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, President of Sri Lanka for this special date.

The staff refreshed with some tea and typical Sri Lankan treats, such as the tuna fish and potatoes pastries. After the refreshments, the Ambassador General Rohan de Silva Daluwatte talked to THE GUIDE about Sri Lankan National Day.
