| The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brazil celebrated the 59th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka on February 4th of 2007. The celebrations consisted of two events. During the morning, the event was at the Embassy's premises where the Ambassador, General Suwanda Hennedige hoisted the national flag during a simple ceremony. |

| This simple ceremony was given to all Sri Lankans who are living in the states of Brasilia, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, along with the embassy's staff and their family members. The consul-designate for the Sri Lanka in São Paulo, Mr. Rohan Fernando also attended to the ceremony. |

| At the ceremony, the Independence Day messages from the president, the prime minister and the minister of foreign affairs were read and appreciated by all of the guests. The delicious food, including Sri Lankan sweetmeats, was served with refreshments for those who attended to the event. |
