Iran celebrated the first day of their calendar on March 21st. This date is also the first day of spring, which has an important meaning in the Iranian culture. This year, the embassy of Iran celebrated the Nowruz party with the attendance of guests from outside the Embassy. The party is the most important celebration of the year and THE GUIDE visited the Iranian Embassy on March 18th to interview the Iranian diplomat Mr. Mehdi Zanjani and the Iranian professor at the University of Brasília (UnB), Mr. Mostafa Nadim to know more about it. During the interview, topics as the Nowruz Celebration and the increasing relationship between Iran and Brazil were discussed. |

Few days after the interview, on March 23rd, the ambassadress Mrs. Azan Shaterzadeh Yazdi hosted a lunch for the female community of diplomats of Brasília. The event took place at the ambassadress’ official residence and among the guests there were ambassadresses, diplomats and members of the Iranian community in Brasília. |

The Nowruz’s celebration marks the beginning of the Persian calendar, which is celebrated with enthusiasm by the Iranian people. The ambassadress greeted many guests for a special lunch during the commemoration of the National Day of Islamic Republic of Iran. |

The party was attended by members of the Iranian community in Brasilia. Upon the arrival of the guests, the ambassadress invited them to join in the real spirit of Nowruz. |

The traditional table of Nowruz and the seven main elements were admired by the guests. The seven items in the Nowruz’s table are: Seer (garlic); Serkeh( vinegar); Samanu ( Persian sweet); Senjed (the fruit and leaf of the Senjed); Esfand ; Seke( coins); Sumac (medicinal effects). |

The guests tasted the traditional dishes of the Nowruz Celebration during the event. It was served a special lunch with fish, which represents the end of the year for the Iranian people and the beginning of a new one. The guests also enjoyed kebab, a traditional Iranian food and rice with vegetables, among other dishes. The delicious baklava was served for dessert as well as various sweets. |
