The US Embassy celebrated the 4th of July with the community with over 2,000 guests at the residence of Ambassador John Danilowich.
The American Community celebrated their 229 th Anniversary of the U.S. Independence with great style at the Embassy Parkway Residence on Sunday, July 3. Surpassing its objectives, the event had the largest number of guests attending an Independence Day celebration in Brasilia with over 2.000 guests, and the largest financial and in-kind support ever from 17 U.S. corporations doing business in Brazil and 6 companies from the local business community.

The guests enjoyed a lovely BBQ among their families and friends in a beautiful, sunny afternoon.
The US community proudly endorsed the spirit of the nation showing the flag and the symbols of the country on the hats, bandanas and shirts.
The celebration was organized by a group of American related civic and business organizations who planned the event during the last four months and counted with the unselfish dedication of over 75 volunteers, the majority U.S. citizens and Brazilians working at the U.S. Embassy. Overall, it was a 4th of July celebration that united both Brazilian and US communities in what may be considered one of the best US Independence Day events in Brasilia.
Many Brazilians and Americans from the Embassy and the community in general volunteered for the event. Here, Mr. Kevin Armstrong, from USAID and the Minister Counsellor Mr. Philip Chicola, of the US Embassy.

It was a family day picnic with Mickey and Minnie as ‘official hosts' greeting all guests as they entered the decorated residence grounds. A variety of inflatable games provided by “Grupo Ciranda” were the favorite place to have fun for many children. While the younger children visited the face painting booth and the games organized by Laura Banks and Kim Kerr, the older ones participated in athletic activities organized by Matt Golden.

A central part of the event was the BBQ with burgers and hotdogs prepared by our U.S. Marines and volunteers, accompanied by an array of beverages donated by Coca-Cola. The audience was later pleased when the group “Radical Samba” played popular Brazilian music at the main stage. After the show, “MC” Mr. Phil Chicola greeted all guests and chose the winning numbers for numerous prizes donated by the sponsors.

At the beginning of the evening, the sky was illuminated by a wonderful display of fireworks, just like any traditional 4 th of July. It was a breathtaking way of ending the celebration of the United States of America 's Independence Day.
