Sports Events >> Golf Tournament of The American Embassy
The tournament had several groups of players, together for the best shots.
On January 17th, the Brasília Golf Club held a friendly tournamet for the diplomatic community, put up by Mr. Daniel McLaughlin, of the U.S. Embassy.

The tournament was created so that the participants could enjoy the holiday in the United States, in honor to Martin Luther King, stroling around the beautiful green fields of the club and making new friends.
Mrs. Boel Wolter, from the American's Women Club International, the AWCI, showed a lot of talent in the tournament, only one year after she has started at the sport.
Brazilians also had their representatives, such as Mr. Roberto Bassous, who showed a lot of class.
The morning was pleasant and the weather cooperated with no rain and not too much sun, but a clear day, which brought up the beauty of the tall dark green trees and the vivid light green grass of the fields.

It was a scramble/best ball format with everyone hitting off the same tee (not at the same time). Teams were broken up or selected based on handicaps (good players, hackers, beginners). And as the tournament was open to all players, Embassy and Nonembassy, people from different countries got together on this very special day.
The tournament was a great oppurtinity to meet friends.
When the tournament ended, all the participants got together at the "Tucano Club", in the U.S. Embassy, for lunch and drinks, regaining the spent energy. But before, Mr. McLaughlin announced the winners of the tournament and gave the prizes to each one.
The winners, from left to right, Mr. Frank Mangela, Simon Henshaw, Kenneth Wilkinson and Daniel McLaughlin, received their prizes, keychains and other souvenirs from the "Brasília Golf club".
Mr. Daniel McLaughlin was also awarded for the "Closest to the Hole" shot.
But Mrs. Debora McLaughlin also confirmed the strong name of the family in the sport and the power of the ladies that morning, awarded for the "Longest Drive".
In the morning of January 17th, golf proved to be a wonderful interactive sport, good for the body and the mind. Extremely well humoured, the group also celebrated the worst handicap, and the prize went to "As Panteras". They got tennis balls, suggesting that maybe it would better consider a career change in sports.
